The rally goal
The long-term goal is to race rally. It's the discipline that fits how I already think about cars: mechanical sympathy, preparation, and being able to fix your own problems when something breaks a long way from a garage.
The obvious question is which car, and I think the answer is already in my driveway. Building the 2019 WRX into it means I'd be starting from a platform I've already taken apart and put back together, which counts for a lot.

A render of what I imagine the car will resemble once all of the modifications have taken place.
The build plan
The car has around 100,000 miles on it, so the plan is to drive it as-is until the engine gives out rather than tearing apart something that still runs. When it does, that's the trigger to start the real build:
- Engine. An IAG short block with forged internals. It comes as a complete kit and gives the motor the strength to handle real power and real abuse.
- Brakes. A big brake kit. More stopping power, and more importantly, brakes that survive repeated hard use without fading.
- Suspension. Proper rally-oriented suspension with the travel and durability that these surfaces actually demand.
None of this happens all at once. It happens when it's affordable and when the car is ready for it.

After the WRX
Once I'm somewhere financially comfortable, the plan is to pick up something else as a daily, most likely a Supra MK5 or an Evo X. That frees the WRX up to come off the road entirely and become a dedicated build instead of a car I still need to get to work in.
